Possible lintel failure

There's a very heavy timber architrave on the inside which may be providing structural support - I would have to take this out to assess whether there is a separate lintel. The arhcitrave been left intact.

I suppose my concern is that the 'triangle of risk' contains a floor joist for the upper floor. Still waiting for the darling other half who hired said cowboys to get on the phone and ask them what their surveyor was playing at.

If the architrave has been left intact, I can't see how the lintel could have been removed, but can you post some internal pics?

[quote="pinenot";p="2751144" draw a thin line (felt tip, dark pencil) ensuring you get the joints clearly marked. Closely inspect this daily, if lines never move away from each other, you have had some settlement (not unusual) which should relieve your worry. [/quote]

Settlement would always be a potential problem. You are confusing settleement with movement.

There will be a timber lintel on the inside.

Thanks for the reassurance and advice. A watching brief but tempted to repoint unless the inne4 lintel starts to fail.
