Potterton condensing boiler

My elderly parents had a new boiler a few weeks ago and initially the timer would not work so the plumber fitted a piece of wire as a shunt to remedy this. Now it seems the timer works but the boiler makes a noise 24 hours a day as if the pump is continually on but the heating is not on during the night but there is a constant noise
