Potterton Netaheat 10-16 wont start

Hi,
I have been having problems with the above boiler for sometime now. In the past I had always managed to get it to ignite but today it seems to have died completely. The problems I have had in the past were, it would never start or it would start but stop after a few minutes. You would hear it click as though it was going to start but never would but after a while it did work. Now it will not even click and you just hear a humming sound and thats it. It seems to be worse when colder and in the past turning the pump up and down seems to have helped. Sorry if this is not very clear, please let me know if you need any more details to help troubleshoot this.

You probably won't find too many people on this forum who would recommend that you get this particular boiler fixed. Try googling it and see what you find with regard to safety.

Anyway, 1st things first. Playing with the pump will have a purely coincidental effect on the boiler starting and nothing more. Is the fan running? doesn't sound like it to me.

Hi,

I have been told that it is the fan and air switch or the ignition circuit at fault. Could someone tell me how much it would cost to replace these. Is it better to a new boiler?

Could just be dirt in a critical point. Even if it's a part has failed, repair unlikely to be over £200. New boiler maybe £1600.

quite often had mositure in the air pressure switch tubes on these, easy peasy to check and clear.

Just relised that it is a Mark 2, does this make a difference?. Is having mositure in the air pressure switch tubes likely to be causing the symtons that it has? It has just decided to start working again but I dont trust it with the winter coming, I have been having problems with it for about a year now, sometimes it will start other times it wont but never for 2 days as it did recently. I dont see how it can be the fan and air switch or the ignition circuit as I was told as surely it wouldnt of started working again. It may just be some dirt or as you say moisture.

I see you are from Hertfordshire, are you local to Stevenage?

pcharles Do please note, that once disturbed these boilers can send carbon monoxide into the room. Unless you have knowledge and kit to test it, leave the thing alone.
