Potterton oil boiler overheats every few hours - HELP!

For the past few months our potterton oil boiler has gone onto overheat every few hours. We have turned the thermostat on the boiler down but it has no impact.

If anybody has got any advice on what we should now try that would be much appreciated.

Could it be the overheat thermostat?

If you mean that the overheat stat is tripping then i would look at the boiler stat as being the problem provided that the rest of the system is working ok ie circulation pump.
