I would like to pick your brain:

The red light in my boiler is now flashing and the pumb is spinning. I have tried reset button but no success. not sure if it needs a new PCB or not? Since not insurance policy, I appreciate if any of you could help me to get it work again. Many thanks.

If it's not firering up after reset it could be the gas valve.

Thank you for your reply.

No, it is not firing up after reset. not even green light. what can I do with the gas valve?

You could pull the plug off it and see if the PCB does anything different.

Then you might be able to measure the resistance of the gas valve.

If the gas valve fails it often damages the PCB. Some of the earlier Suprimas had dogey gas valve solenoids, wire tension too tight I was told and that often resulted in shorted turns.

thanks Tony.

Which plug is for gas valve? When I switched off the boiler power supply. the red light went off as well. My suprima is about 5 years old.

My suprima is also 5 years old and judging by the the symptoms you've got my gas valve went, then 6 months down the line the PCB went. Get potterton heateam out, for £220 for a years cover on you system instead of some fly by night plumber.

Best £220 I've paid BTW.

Sounds the way to go. Is the £220 current heateam charge?

This is what I paid last October and covers the whole system for a year through Domestic and general.

If both the gas valve and PCB have gone then Heat Team is the solution. Even for the PCB only unless you would consider using a repaired PCB.

However it could also be something quite minor! Getting it properly diagnosed first might save you money.

I dont like being thought of as a "fly by night plumber" !

Tony

Indeed, a good and accurate diagnose would make a lot of differences. I had a plumber around, who did boiler service last month, but he did not pick up any fault then. I guess diagnose was not part of boiler service.

I have had to use reset for some time, at least two months until this weekend when it completely failed to start/ignite. At the moment, I am using immersion heater producing hot water.

Edited on 04/Jun/2006:

Last week , I called out heateam and pcb was replaced with a newer pcb. My boiler now works fine. Hope it will last for a while.

One again, many thanks to Tony and broxy for their help.
