Hi everyone.

I was after some advise about my boiler. I recently had a new gas valve fitted and all was well but the boiler has developed another problem.

Basically, the boiler does not shut off the gas regardless of what setting I put the dial on. (The one on the boiler). The boiler then gets too hot and I get a 'lock out' - ie red flashing light. I can let it cool down, reset it and it fires until the same problem happens again.

Could this be a faulty gas valve or is it likely that something else has gone wrong. I have seen a lot of posts on here about dodgy pcb's and was wondering if that could cause the fault im getting.

Thank you
Mike

Did you have this red flashing light, assume it was the gas valve then changed it yourself?

If not why was the gas valve replaced and what was the original fault?

Does your boiler have two seperate lights or just one?

Red light flashing once per second is either ignition lockout or overheat. If it's overheating there are things you can do yourself but if it's ignition lockout you need an RGI to do it for you.

IF YOU FITTED THAT GV YOURSELF YOU SHOULD GET AN RGI TO HAVE LOOK STRAIGHT AWAY AS IT MAY NOT BE SET-UP CORRECTLY HENCE YOUR IGNITION LOCKOUT.

DO NOT DIY GAS!

if the boiler goes out using the external controls your problem is not likely to be the gas valve, get the engineer that changed the valve back.

These gas valves are not "set up " out of the box,i have lost count of the amount i have been to where the "engineer " has hung the valve on seen the burner light and left.
The valve requires its burner pressure setting to m.i requirement aswell as rating the boiler and all other gas safe checks.
The reason i am telling you this is you mentioned your boiler is "overheating" i would guess its B.P is high at around 16mb or more....

The gas valve was changed by a local gasman. I didnt change it. The original fault was that the boiler kept trying to light and failed. Once it tried several times, the red light flashed (the top one). After it was changed the boiler worked fine for the last 6 weeks.

Ive spoken to him and he explained that he had to set the 'gas pressure' on the valve according to the badge on the boiler as the pressure is important due to the size of the house ect..... :?

Has the gas man screwed it up somehow?

Mike.

Well he has given the correct answer!

But my suspicious mind wonders if the original problem just needed a small adjustment !!!
