Hi to all,

I used this site a few yrs ago and recieved good advice on re-soldering PCB.

I have a potterton Suprima 60 that appears to run up correctly but will not spark.
Once system is on flashing red light showing, press reset button, fan runs, solid green light comes on, green light then flashes @ ignition but no spark @ electrode, can smell gas. Cycle repeats three times then cuts out.

I fitted re-con PCB, system worked fine for a few weeks then started to degrade, boiler locking out, would start if reset, then spark became weeker untill spark was lost.

Have just changed, HT lead, electrode, overheat stat and Temp thermister. Earth checks out ok Gas is being released @ time of ignition, still no spark.

Am I now back to problems with PCB, (possible faulty component that generates pulse for spark)???

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Is the ht lead definitely fitted onto the pin and not pushed home into the space at the side?. Never had a failure of a spark generator on a suprima but try offering a screwdriver to various points from the pin at the back of the board to see if a spark is being generated.gas off of course and bear in mind electrode carries full voltage even when not sparking!

Thanks ollski,

The electrode lead was connected correctly at both ends.

Have disconnected lead at electrode end and held to earth as system was running up,(Gas off ofcse).

Had the weekest of sparks across to earth untill ignition sequence(green light flashing rapidly). At this stage week spark stopped and resumed after ignition.

Tried the same sequence holding end of lead to back end of electrode pin, no spark across lead during run up or ignition??

Also held screwdvr across back end of spark generator connection (no lead connected). No spark across screwdvr wether to earth or not, either at run up or ignition.

Any ideas please

Where can you smell gas?

Paul.

Can smell gas from the burner around the electrode, only when ignition cycle takes place.

Have removed and refitted the PCB after re-soldering the joints.

Checked continuity of all main component circuits, and individual component continuity following the tracks on the PCB.

Same fault exists. (Power system on, red led flashes, hit reset, fan runs green led flashes, green led flashes faster for ignition no spark at electrode).
