Asking here because I don't know where else to ask, the issue is with a power adapter for an exercise bike.

The cable has been chewed by guinea pigs in several places and we need to replace the adapter and lead, but have no idea how to go about finding one with the same spec, if it's at all possible. Any ideas?

Photo of adapter plug attached.

Thanks

Do a Google image search pretty similar ones come up I haven't gone through all the details, voltage etc you can do that :)

Looks like 9.0v 0.5amp, DC, centre pin on the plug positive. You just need to find one with a matching voltage output, DC, a matching plug and polarity, of 0.5amp or more.

9 volt. Must be 9 volt....
0.5amp or above. Many are 2amp which is fine.
Jack size needs to be correct. You will need to measure.
Outside of your jack is neutral so that needs to be the same

Yeah.
Outer jack is neutral or if you prefer negative. Although do you mean neutral is ground?.
Both the same thing but maybe not if DC which it is.

I need to fact check myself. Ha

Couldn't you just solder a new wire on and keep the plug?

Not a matter of what I prefer, neutral implies it is AC, and they are certainly not the same thing.

Hmm, I've never had much luck with those types, or at least when I used to buy them, which was about twenty odd years ago when there was much less choice. I'd say over the years when I've bought replacement power adapters despite what the specs/reviews have said probably only 50% of the time I've kept it and used it because it actually worked. Probably a good reason to buy one from Amazon, as their returns are so easy.

The one thing we don’t know for sure is the size of the plug. The outside diameter will be 5.5mm, but the inner diameter - i.e. the diameter of the pin that fits into it - could be 2.1mm or 2.5mm. You’ve probably got other power supplies with similar plugs; try comparing them and decide if yours is large or small.

If you’re not sure, I believe 2.1mm is somewhat more common. I’d get this one:

Note that’s not from eBay or Amazon….
