Power Shower

Seen a few sketchy instructions about installing power showers.
Am i right to assume that they are run off seperate hot and cold water feeds fed from the tank.
Are run off a switched fused spare on a 3amp fuse.
Is it possible to take the water straight from the mains?

from a seach on these forums, i have figured the following

powershower must have 2 large tanks in loft, one for cold water, one for hot (to replace hot form cyinder, both tanks to be big)

you must take hot feed from tank, not its pipes (wessex flange)


this is to keep flow evenly balanced

"power" in power shower comes form electric pump, fed from ring main, own ct, via suitably rated fuse in a FCU

Depends which type of power shower and heating systems you have / are considering. So for a more comprehensive reply, more details required.

One tanks is fine. It just has to be big enough, bearing mind the rate of refill from the main, that it doesn't run out in the busiest period of use.


No, the mains is not used for the cold because it would be impossible to get the hot pressure to match it, which is needed if a mixer is going to work reasonably well.

"Power Shower" means nothing specific. More than 10 litres per minute perhaps. An electric shower only gives you about 4. A combi typically gives 9-12, a pumped shower 10 upwards, rarely more than 20, though 50 is possible fairly easily.

Tell you what chris I have a mira extreme power shower that runs at 16 lpm, if you turn it on full power it will do its level best to pummel you into the ground, if you can get into it before the hot water runs out that is!. Guess you must need to be getting about 50lpm to run these full body showers though.

Just wondering , if you only had one tank how would you refill a vented cylinder?
