Powering aquarium filters during a house move

I can well believe that, and I imagine that it's the main reason why the OP is proposing to hire a van and move the fish and associated equipment himself, separate from the main removal van etc.

However, as I said, there are also countless specialist transport companies (aka 'couriers') who could well no what the OP wants/needs - at a price.

Kind Regards, John

Unfortunately, not countless companies. Our little Island does not have the sort of choice that you guys on the adjacent larger Island have! :)

We are prepared to put the work in to do it ourselves, it's just that it's a little difficult.

We lost one in transit, (a silver dollar which was about 5 years old and had begun to show signs of swim bladder disease before the move), and a small tiger shark about two days after the move.

Going back to the removal van battery, could you not run a cable from the van battery externally into the van? You'd have maybe a few inches of cable externally. It wouldn't be pretty but would work. Could cover it with white tape. Link to a secondary battery in the back, already charged beforehand. Disconnect the van battery before the crossing. Then the inverter would have a fully charged battery for the crossing Which as someone else has said should last the crossing. Have 2 batteries if you wanted. Just dont leave it connected to the van battery as you need enough juice to get going again! Once the van is started again reconnect its battery. This is what I'd do.

I realise that, but they would have to do a 'round trip' (to get back to their 'home'), regardless of which side of the water they were based - you therefore would theoretically have all the mainland companies at your disposal.

What part of Scotland are you moving to?

Kind Regards, John
