If you look at the Part P Approved Document at http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/en...bcelectricalsafetypartp/bcapproveddocuments12

You will find an overview of older wiring practises somewhere around page 35.

Other than that you would need to get old copies of the Wiring Regulations the 13th and 14th would cover that period. :-

1955 13th Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations launched, Reprinted, 1958, 1961, 1962 and 1964

1966 14th Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations published Reprinted, 1968, 1969, 1970 (in metric units), 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1976

Those will tell you how things SHOULD have been done.

Cheers for that
Imay post some pics of one of the properties as it has one service fuse for each of the phases and one for the neutral I cant make out the size but it has been suggested they may be as high as 500Amps each ?
any comment

Ooh please post! We like pictures.

You need to get the DNO to sort out the neutral fuse. Its not allowed any more! (Do make sure its not just a solid link).

I assume the seal fairy has visited the premises in the past

Cheers TTC
Photos I will try to get I have posted for info on a digi camera for this and other uses

If the supply fuses are as big as that, normally they will be enclosed in a large steel box, as the supply will need to be fitted with CTs to meter the useage.
