Hi, I am working on organising the installation of uPVC French double doors and horizontal casement window into a concrete block garage. I'm having them installed professionally but intending to do all of the prep to minimise the install job I need to pay for. The door is going in place of a current window, and the window in place of a garage door that will be removed and the rest of the gap blocked up. Both have concrete lintels of appropriate width already. I'm unsure about what is needed as prep here apart from cutting the appropriate size space in the block wall. The structure is currently just bare concrete block inside and out, with the intention to use insulated plasterboard to finish the interior wall after.

What I'm unsure of is:

1. What preparation should be done around the opening before the installation? i.e. framing, moisture protection etc?
2. What should be the intended size of the opening after those steps? How much clearance should be given vs the window size?
3. How similar is the preparation for doors vs window? The window in this case is a horizontal casement window (2000W x 50H), going high up on the wall.

Thanks.

Block-up under the proposed window, i.e. lay DPC, masonry, tie wires, insulation etc to proposed sill height.

Remove masonry for proposed French doors, i.e. Stihl saw the sides and remove blocks etc.

Assuming single skin, will need render or cladding externally. If you're capable of cutting the openings etc then you should be able to fit the windows and doors - and if your sizes aren't fixed you can pick up miss-measured/surplus windows and doors cheaply on eBay. Clearance is 10mm wider and taller than the window.
