Hi all,

Have a tiled lounge/diner which we will be covering half/half with Laminate(or real wood) flooring and carpet. Some of the tiles have loosened over the years and a few are also cracked and moving (one in particular is smashed due to bricks falling on it). Before the new flooring is put in place, what would you suggest I do with these tiles?

I do have spare tiles but was wondering if there was something I could coat the existing tiles with that would fill/seal it? The last thing I want is for the carpet to make 'crunching/cracking' noises when walking over it!

Advice appreciated.

I would take up the tiles especially if they are lifting already.

SDS drill with rotation stop and a broad chisel should do the job.

Well, I took the tiles up......and found another set of tiles underneath!

Took them up as well seeing as some of them had come up with the first lot. The second layer were only 3mm deep and bitumen like. In some areas the concrete base has also come up, but I'm guessing I could use a epoxy filler to make those areas level.

At least the new flooring will be level.

Thanks for your suggestion (although at the time, your ears must've been burning!).
