Pressure relief valve? leaking - sort of

Morning folks

Quick question im sure all you plumbers will know.

We noticed a leak on our living room ceiling/wall yesterday and found a large puddle in our water tank cupboard but could not spot the cause. After a shower a few hours later all was obvious.

I cant upload a video as its mp4 but the attached image shows what i am guessing is some sort of pressure relief ?

Im assuming the water (which was cold) is meant to drop straight down however this was flowing sideways so missing the target completely.

Any ideas why it would suddenly start flowing sideways after 2 years and is there a better way to do this? (with a bigger catch?).

1. That is a tun dish, presumably for an unvented hot water cylinder.
2. It is there to show you there is a problem
3. Because the water is cold, it is likely to be a problem with the combination valve which controls water going into the cylinder.
4. You can get better tun dishes. However, the most likely cause of diversion from straight flow is a build up of limescale, which suggests it has been running intermittently for some time.
5. These cylinders require an annual service. This is important because the service should include a check of all the safety devices which prevent the cylinder from exploding.
6. Anyone working on these cylinders must have a current "G3" accreditation with a "Competent Person's Scheme". There are a number of such bodies, including Gas Safe and NAPIT. You are not allowed to do the work yourself unless you are accredited to such a scheme.

The system was last serviced 29/01/2021 and is due another at the end of this month.

If im reading your post right, under healthy running conditions, this should not see any flow ?

The house is a new build (Jan 2020) still under warranty so ive asked them to investigate & rectify the fault aswell as repainting the downstairs damaged areas once thats done.

The installers and tradesmen they tend to get round for any work are more often than not, terrible so I thought I would ask here for more realistic advice.

System wise, im not sure what you would call it as we have both a water tank on the middle floor & a combi boiler downstairs on the ground floor.

The reason the water is running out of the cup is because the inlet pipework isn't straight, it's putting strain on the top of the tundish and bending it (it's only plastic) so the end of the pipe is pointing outwards, just lazy workmanship, ask them to sort it when they're in.

under normal conditions there should be no water running in the tundish, you have a fault, tell them to get it sorted
