Prestex fittings

Just out of curiosity what are Prestex fittings and why do they have a different thread?

Each manufacturer can choose their own threads to use ( and to make them incompatable with other fittings ).

This is seen in the timeclocks to an amusing degree.

They try to make their clocks go on all the other backplates but try to stop other clocks fitting theirs!

It's only the older ones that have a fine thread on the nuts.Later ones are 1/2" BSP.
Prestex is the brand name.

Ah simple as that, I suppose pro's keep a little tub of old nuts etc from different threaded parts.

I think its the same with Pegler I have a 22m lever valve in my house and that had a finer pitch thread as did a Caleffi PRV.

A far better way than trying to keep a stock of all the different threads is:
Get olive cutters, or,
olive pullers, or,
Take a few bits of old pipe, stick some olives on and find out what the easiest way for you is to cut the olives and crack them without damaging the pipe. About half way trough and then pushing them towards the end of the pipe with waterpump pliers does the trick for me if I don't have a cutter handy.

Once the funny thread is removed, you can stick a normal one on.
