Hello all!

So, my new flat had timber windows (I assume sash but not 100% sure) replaced with pvc casement windows when the previous owners refurbished in 2007. I've just established that the flat is in a conservation area, set up in 2000. My experience of conservation areas around this part of town (North West London) and Victorian properties, is that PVC has not been allowed.

Assuming this is correct (even though nothing was picked up during the searches) where does that leave me? Both with respect to recourse to previous owners and also for me - I'm planning on doing my own refurbishment, with some things that will need planning permission. The council (camden) will send someone round, they'll spot the windows, and then what?

Any advice, info would be much appreciated!

did the last owner tell you any lies about the windows if not you have no recourse

Incidentally, Planning and Building Regs are two entirely separate things; I'm not even certain that my local Planning Department knows where the Building Control office is (it's next door, btw)

Ha, brilliant Nakajo!

But yes, thanks for the clarification. Should have said planning, it's got absolutely nothing to do with building regs.

I'm not really sure what your concern is. But 2007 is too long ago for the LPA to do anything. That said it might be useful if you can prove what you say - old Google Streetview photos for instance.
