I got a primatic that I`m using as a direct-ie no boiler connections, plugged them off- in my house with an immersion in.what`s it worth not that old and foam lagged....wanna come to Sussex and collect with loads £££££
If you'd done asearch you'd have found lots of hints about how to remove a tight immersion heater!
You can use a jigsaw! Drill a hole in it or use your stat hole and cut sideways with a metal cutting blade. Stop just short of the threads each side and use a hacksaw blade by hand. You have to nick the threads cos they're part of the bit you want out, but they aren't the seal.
Strip away some insulation and heat with a blowlamp to soften any goo. Ah heat gun won't do it. And you have to have drained the water well away. A big pair of grips wil break the seal, as you should have a slot right across the heater, so you imm heater spanner should get it out ok.
Mend the pinhole on the cylinder. Flatten out a piece of copper pipe slit down the side, to make a piece to cover the leak. Heat it very hot and dunk in water and it'll be soft enough to form to the right shape.
Clean with emery, and you can solder it on. I'd "tin" the patch and the tank first.
You won't want to apply a lot of pressure to the new immersion so put it in as tight as you dare, with Fernox LS-X over the threads and washer.
Sorry for the delay replying!
I have now got the old element out ,well the head and about 2 inch of element it looks like they had rusted off in there and sunk to the bottom ( it looks like searching for the titanic without the fish!).there they where like two rusty masts askew on the seabed.
any way the hole is not leaking now,it was a tiny pinhole to start with and I tapped it with the hammer and it has stopped?? mabye sealed itself up!
I know I shouldnt but its now working with the new element and is much cheaper than any other option!,I know ryans was probably the place to go but im hoping to hold out till funds are available or it goes again!
