Primer Question

Have to repaint the woodwork in our hall. It was painted 11 years ago 2 coats of Dulux Primer for Difficult Surfaces, 2 coats of undercoat and 1 coat of Satinwood on stained dark wood with some layers of varnish on top. I have just sanded down the woodwork and gave it a clean.
Should I put the primer just on the dark areas or paint it over all the wood work before one undercoat and satinwood?

Primer is really just needed where the timber is bare, but a coat of Zinsser primer will help your new paint stick, and old colours won't show through.
All painted surfaces must be rubbed down with an abrasive paper, to key the new paint, naturally.

As said by Burnerman, all surfaces should be rubbed down to 'key' the surface. For difficult area like mouldings I always use wire wool to get into the nooks and crannies. (Wear rubber Marigold gloves, wire shavings in your fingers hurt like hell!)
