Hi,

The temperature control on my shower stopped working. It's fixed at one temperature.

I've opened up the wall and removed the valve. Also unscrewed what I thought was the cartridge (marked 2 in the photo), but all it contains is a spring. Moving the temp control just compresses the spring, which pushes down on a mechanism further inside the valve.

How do I get the actual cartridge (marked 1 in the photo) out of the valve?

There's nothing to grab onto to turn it.

I don't know the manufacturer, and no name is stamped on the valve or the face plate. Unit is about 15 years old. I'd rather try and service it because buying new will mean new holes in the tile work and new copper piping in the wall. Might as well try soaking in vinegar if it's a limescale problem. The valve is junk at this point.

Thanks.
