problem starting car

vw vento L plate 100k miles. new battery,

when the key is turned it usually starts first time other times just a click
and it wont start at all,

could it be a new starter motor is required ?

plenty life in battery.

any help would be appreciated

Yes almost certainly the starter motor, the click is the solenoid, which must have an intermittent fault.
