Problem with bathroom floor, see picture and advice

Hi All,

By the edges of my the bathroom floor, I managed to seal it using a sealant, but what I realises is that the sealant doesn't seal the edges well, as the floor moves a little bit, the space begins to show up again. Now I am being advised to use a beading around the bathroom to cover the space between the flooring and also the edges of the wall. I just don't think the sealant is working. This bathroom is on the second floor of a Victorian conversion building.

Look like laminate, these are floating floors and move. can you please confirm the type of floor material used?
If laminate, best option is beading.
If laminate is this a suitable type of laminate for bathroom? If not you will encounter even more problems.

yeah looks like laminate mate pretty sure you fix the beading to the skirting not the floor silicone wont help you

Sorry the floor is not laminate, its like Vinyl flooring just with a laminate effect. Its definitely not laminate flooring.

you need to clean that off, use a stanley blade, it needs to be clean.

run a nice thick bead of 'silicone' not this 'sealant' you can now buy, poss with some weight on it and leave it there untill it drys.

Yeah, you could do that too.

If it where me, I would try and silicone first, looks better.

I also experienced this problem with my bathroom floor beside my bathroom shower enclosures. I called for person who can repair this one. Now it is okay! I think you cannot repair this on your own. A help of a person expert in this that who would work for you. A person who would go to that place and find out the problem is the best solution. I hope this help![/code]

whats under the vinal ? don't think your floor should be moving to that extent probery best to investigate further before Covoring up the problem

Its a Victorian conversion flat, so I assume its floor board on the floor. I'm going to have it checked out. Might change the whole vinyl in the floor. As towards the bath, the floor seems to be folding up and forming up some kind of lump.

Is it better and longer lasting to have ceramic tiles on the floor ?

If the floor moves as much as you say, it no good for tiles.

Well, I dont know how to describe. It doesnt move as such. But when you enter the bathroom/toilet, you can see from the edges that the silicon does come off the edges as seen in pic. The only reason I said tiling is that I feel it will make the floor solid and because it will be sealed, less chance of leaks via the flooring.

I do however feel the floor could do with a change. When I laid new laminate across everywhere, I didnt do the bathroom nor kitchen.
Does the floor need to be solidified before tiles can be laid ?
