Hi all,

Last Monday I had a Worcester Bosch 30CDI boiler fitted after removal of a Baxi back boiler and fire removed. Since then I have had a few problems.

First one was the next day when i had a small leak on one of my pipes which the engineer came back and fixed as he was still fitting an extra radiator on the upstairs landing.

Second one, when water is turned on, washing machine, shower etc I am now getting a clunk in my pipes.

Thirdly, when i switch the heating on the downstairs radiators are piping hot within 5 mins but upstairs take about an hr and a half to get warm. Do you think the radiators need balancing?

I have tried to call the engineer yesterday, no answer so text him and still no answer. How long do you think i should give him to reply as i dont want to seem like im pestering him either but i do want these problems fixed?

Also, the engineer left and hasnt filled in the paperwork for my warranty etc and I have still not received a certificate for the work completed.

Can anyone advise on what to do next?

Thank you for reading .

Based on other postings here I suppose he was working illegally at weekends and you paid cash and dont know his name or address.

Did you check he was gas registered and know his details?

He needs to balance the rads. The clunking may be unclipped pipes.

Obviously not someone to recommend?

I always wonder how people get themselves into this situation. Well acually I do! They are overcome by the attraction of saving money by paying cash and getting someone they dont know to do the work.

Oh dear yet anouther victim, did you ask for his gas safe card?? Do you know if he is registered? Have you paid him in full??

Balencing is a yes, pipe knocking is probably now it's on high pressure now. I would be more worried about ye paper work

I would pester him till the cows come home.

Thanks for the replies and also assuming that im stupid in some way.

My husband checked he was gas safe registered as he supplied these details when he provided the quote for the work. He also wasnt illegally working weekends doing the work as he came during working hours, during the week (he has his own business). I also do know his name, company name, address and telephone numbers.

Yes I also did pay cash, but also got a recommendation from someone he had previously done work for that I know. I also didnt save money, I had 4 qoutes and they were all around the same price. I went with the one that seemed more confident and able to do the work required.

Send him a text message 'as the paperwork has not been completed do I ring gas safe on your behalf?' You might get a response then :)

I have just txt him telling him i need the certificate and warranty stuff filled out ASAP. I will see what his response is (if any) and will try what u said :)

I hope your husband checked on the G-S web site and matched his photo there with him! Its common for illegas to quote a genuine persons registration. They often use his name too.

I hope when you paid with cash that he gave you a proper receipt with the datails of whom you paid? If you dont have a receipt then what proof do you have that he ever did any work there?

Do yo now feel that the recommendation given to you was justified and his confidence and refusal to answer calls or texts still makes you happy with the job that he has done?

Most important is has he completed the Benchmark Certificate which comes with the boiler? Tell us!

The Certificate is posted by Gas Safe or other notifying body and takes up to 10 days to arrive. Thats required under the Building Regulations.

If he does not reply soon then complain to Gas safe and ask them to inspect because you have concerns that it may not have been done corrrectly.

Yes Tony, he did check on the website and his photo while he was here as was done with the other 3 people who provided a quote.

I do have a receipt for work completed which is stamped with his company name address and tel no.

The recommendation i received was positive but then im sure he doesnt treat all customers like this surely or he wouldnt have a business, and no i am not happy with the work done, hence my post on here!

No he has not completed the benchmark certificate or the warranty form either as i stated in my first post.

I have still not had a reply and will complain to Gas Safe if i dont get a reply soon. I suppose i may have to pay someone else to fix what he has done but i will be sending him the bill.
