Problems with Plastic Pipes

I had a Combi system fitted about 6 years ago and at the time the fitter told us that plastic piping was the best, However we have just had a service done and we were told that the pipes were not up to standard and could affect our CH cover as they let air into the system.

We do have a problem with air getting into the system as we have to recharge the system every few weeks and we also have a problem with our living room radiators where the rads heat at the top but not at the bottom until the heating has been on for some time. When the heating is first switched on it can take an hour or so before the heat is distributed to even the first (main) rad in the system.

How much would it roughly cost to re-pipe the system with like copper or whatever is standard now. we have 9 rads in the house.

Its a little difficult to guess but if YOU were to take up all floorboards and only the pipes were changed it might be about £300-£500. But that assumes they were laid as if copper. If they have been threaded through joists it could be a lot more.

It sounds as if you had a real cowboy who not only used plastic but did not use the correct barrier pipe.

Because some people rubbish others work look at any writing on the pipe and see if it does say "barrier" on it.

Cheerz for the reply Tony,

Just had a look at the pipes and cant see any writing on them at all. The pipes have just been laid here there and everywhere threaded in and around and through the joists so looks like a big spend if scottish gas drop the contract.

Can it be replaced by Barrier piping or is copper just best hands down.
