Hi,
New to the forum so hope I have posted in the right place. I stripped our front bedroom and discovered some sticky patches on the chimney breat, front and side. I scapped it off and sanded it down and it seemed to dry out. We had the room re skimmed and painted the walls but the sticky patches have come back. Can anyone help with this?

Thanks

Did you block your chimney off?. The classic problem if you did is damp is getting drawn into your plaster from the chimney and is bringing with it the by products of burning fossil fuels, there is a name for it but can't remember. You must have some ventilation going through the chimney. Solution i'm not sure of, but with the ventilation it shouldn't get any worse, with the source of the problem solved you may be able to scrape and abrade and repaint.
Hopefully someone else we'll be a bit more clued up but pretty sure its was causing your problem.
