The earth point on the back plate is actually called a parking terminal.
The earth would only come into play when you remove and park (position/fit/fix) the control to the back plate.
The control is double insulated and no earth is required during its use and when it is working. It is only incase you are dumb enough to stick your fingers in behind, or hold the unit incorrectly when fitting/removing.
The choice is yours.
