You appear to have grasped the main purpose of lintels there! If needs be, existing lintels can be replaced with something more heavy duty to take additional loadings, all designed by your SE!

Thanks ofr the reply, I am unsure what or if there are any lintels up there and wont know until ipull the ceiling down, I am just getting a few ideas in my head prior to doing it.
I have noticed on the outside of the building above the window there is no lintel, there is a curved formation of bricks.
