Public liability insurance for a one off small job

We use Trade Direct insurance services
If you talk to them they will taylor your policy exactly to your own requirements. Can also increase your liability limits for short periods for particular jobs.
We recently did a large contract on a grade 1 listed building including several weeks leadburning. We were able to go from our normal £6 million to £25 million to cover house and contents for a 3 month period.
Wow that mustve been an interesting project, mind you a ton of paperwork and conservation officers breathing over it.

Your company must be pretty specialised to get that sort of work

The neighbour should look at his previous work, that is better insurance than a policy. But why wouldnt he take out insurance when it is relatively cheap and the peace of mind it gives.

Over the years he has repointed about 15(?) properties on that road, some of which were 3 story detached properties.

It looks like his current customer fell out with his neighbour when he objected to their extension, hence they are insisting that the pointer has public liability insurance.

He was telling me earlier today that he was quoted about £300 for the year and opted for a month at about £30.

Large hall in North Lincolnshire large heating/ hot water upgrade heating in screwed steel starting in 3in in plant room in cellar.
When I first looked at job going up main stairs was greeted on landing by huge collection on bowls and buckets!
Turned out 2 large lead gutter were leaking and owners had been quoted £250000 to replace!
Access was by a permanent set of stairs within building so no scaffolding required.
The existing lead was in good nick for its age just long cracks across it.
Finished up leadburning expansion joints in customers are in there 70s so hopefully should last there time.
Total cost for myself and a roofer to deal with slates around
£2750
Used to be a nominated leadwork Contractor biggest job we did was on a large hall in Sheffield used over 250 tonne of lead.

The existing pointing is the old victorian lime pointing.

They will simply hack it out.

For what it is worth, a couple of months ago they had to remove the render from a semi-detached house, both properties were rendered. They got me to grind a vertical score line between the two properties, and yes, my Festool grinder was connected to a dust extractor.

He got the insurance today, used the one mentioned on this site. Thanks to all.

Sorry to be a dimwit, but why would the old lime be hacked out? Assuming most of it will be in reasonable enough condition?
Is lime mortar going back in or cement ?

They hack back to about 18?mm.

Then do a bedding joint and then the weather struck pointing after.

They only do lime pointing if the customer specifies it.

Lime pointing is more expensive because it smudges the bricks more, requiring a wash down with brick acid after.

I have known the guy for about 7 years but have, incidentally, worked in houses that he pointed over 20 years ago and the pointing still looks great.
