Hello, my pug 307(110bhp) has an intermitent starting fault. Usually first start in the morning and then after being at work for the day. Inbetween this it starts straight away every time. Spoke to a mechanic who says the Hdi engine does not use the glow plugs to start? The engine only seems to struggle when its been left to go cold which does make me think it is a faulty plug. any ideas please???

A good Hdi engine doesn't need the glowplugs to start, does it spin over quickly? It could be a faulty in tank fuel pump, can you hear it run for a second or two when you turn the ignition on?. My 406 Hdi starts instantly even at below freezing but the starter does wap it round at a rate of knots, if yours doesn't could be that the battery is on the way out.
