Youll be suprised just how old a large proportion of the network is....including cables and switchgear. My current role is to de-commision and replace switchgear from the 1950's and If a 500Kva Transformer is less that 45 years old.....It gets a an oil change and goes back on the system!!!

We still have pre-war (WW2) built overhead lines.
I don't know about other DNOs but all our oil is recycled by ourselves so it is far removed from what make it originally was!
