pump and tank questions

I went away for a few days and when I returned, my water would run out and then my pump would kick on. I found that the pump was clogged where the line goes to the pressure switch. Well, now it doesnt run rigth after replacing the pressure switch and line and messing with the air in the tank. Whats the rigth way to put air in the tank and should I take the pump apart to look for more crud?

If you have a pump with a pressure vessel, then to pressurise the vessel you need to release the pressure on the water side. Switch off the pump and open one of the taps that it supplies.
