pumped electric shower

just had an pumped electric shower installed and the "surge" is non existent !! plumber says all the plumbing is okay - any ideas what else to check ?? could there be insufficient power from the original wiring to fire the pump properly ??

Measure the flow so you know whether it's all you should expect. If not first try would be to check for blockages in filters. Make etc might help!

in terms of the flow, is there a way to measure this without equipment ?? I know what the 8.5KW that was there before did and I know I was expecting an improvement with a 9.5KW pumped but there is a very very slight improvement only.

Take the handset off the end of the flexi, turn on the shower and time how long it takes to run a litre of water into a measuring jug. Work out how many litres per minute. Job done!

Or am I missing something?

I assume the shower is connected to the cold supply from the loft tank. The installation guide (which presumably you also have!) says that you should be getting around 3.5 litres per minute at 40C. Note that this is only a SMALL pump in a low-output shower (for a reasonable electricity consumption, it HAS to be!) so it will never, ever flatten you against the wall and flay the skin off your soft bits.

seems I have wasted your time guys. The shower is performing to spec. the problem is with the numpty at homebase who said that the shower would make a huge difference I have not quantified the spec against a std 8.5KW shower but I have been mislead. I paid 3 times the price of a bog std shower and did not get three times the shower.

Next stop - Homebase !!

Too bluddy right! You get exactly the same amount of water at a given temp from a pumped electrically heated shower of 10kW as you do from a non pumped (so off the mains) shower of 10kW. A bit less in fact - the pump will take a bit!

Homebase's advisors are usually hopeless.
They have given you WRONG information and you deserve your money back.

spoke to them yesterday and explained to them what pumped electric showers do - can you see the flaw in the last statement ??

have been told to put it in writing so have just fired off the letter claiming for £350 which is for £200 extra for a shower I didn't need and £150 for pipework to run a pipe from the tank to the shower which I wouldn't have needed had the numpties sold me a 105KW electric which I now know I need.

expect this saga to run for a bit but will keep ya'll posted......

being sarcastic - the bit about me explaining to them how showers work.....

the manager has said that I can take the shower back and they will replace it for a 105KW job and refund the £200 difference. He wants more time to decide what happens with the £150 I paid for the unnecessary pipe work. Watch this space .......

I am prepared to foot the bill for the new shower to be fitted - which is stretching my generosity far enough.
