A large bandsaw would be ideal for ripping these sort of things down, but a circular is fine. As big all says a 73mm depth of cut would leave you a liitle shy of a full cut but to be honest I've done similiar and just ripped the little bit down by hand. Guard off at least though for this kind of thing.

oo by the way i dont want you to think i am against recycling

i make furniture mainly country kitchen style from pine and i try and reuse as near to 10% on each bit it can be hidden bits like drawer runners internal supports or if its a nice bit off wood on show in a crucial area like top or drawer fronts

To be fair in a commercial sense recycling can be a problem because of the extra time involved but if you can class your time as free then it can be worthwhile

yes i fully agree
i have a wood burner so get given all sorts off timber including stuff i made decades ago
i am semi retired [at 58] so have the time but i dont really waste any more than a few mins selecting timbers to recycle over what goes into the stack for burning

Big-all off the original topic I know but when it comes to wood for your burner is there anything you don't burn? When I had mine I wouldn't burn tanalised and the like because I'm sure I read somewhere about dioxins being produced at lower temperatures . A collegue who also had a woodburner would burn treated timber but wouldn't burn mdf because he said it smells when burning but I found it ok

dont really do any exterior work so treated is minimal although i am burning a 30 to 40 year old oak arris rails and pales but i dont think they have been touched with any preserver since installed
i do burn any treated timber keep it to about 5 to 10% off whats burning at the time the same as mdf
i try and have as near to zero smoke and manage 95% off the time
to much mdf at once causes to much smoke
