Hi to you all, wondering whether anyone can help.

In the process of doing a 4 room extension which involved taking three quarters of the roof off, then raising and flipping the ridge line. unfortunately the building inspector came to inspect after the tiles were on and told me that the Purlins cant be on angles anymore and have to be notched out. Is this true? if so please somebody tell me that there is a way to sort this problem out without taking the tiles off etc because the work isnt insured and i havnt got any money left

birdsmouthing the rafters onto the purlin is commonplace and ties all the roof components together, preventing twist/rotation etc. your roofer should have been aware.

why did you not get it inspected before adding the tiles?

have you pitched the purlin to the angle of the rafters so that it sits flat against the rafter underside?

i'm sure there must be a way to replicate the connection without having to b/m all the rafters.

we need shytalkz.

Part of me would say that your BCO is talking nonsense. The other part of me would say that what the BCO is saying makes no sense.

Tell him to get stuffed and read up on some roofing books

That's what I thought, I can't see how an upright purlin with birdmouths is stronger than an angle purlin, I have done my loft conversion with the angle purlin.
