Hi, can anyone tell me how to remove push fittings as I have just layed new floor and now they need taking off and extending. Photos attached. Any advice will be grateful.
Regards Dave
1. Make sure water is totally isolated.
2. Push grey plastic base ring inwards towards body of fitting.
3. With ring pushed in, pull fitting up off copper pipes.
Not sure what you mean by extend.
1. The flexis themselves cannot be extended, but you may be able to get new, longer ones. (See below)
2. The copper pipes can be extended by adding lengths of copper using:
2.1 Solder couplings. Best because once done its done forever.
2.2 Compression couplings. Should not be used in inaccessible places if possible.
2.3 Push fit couplings. Again, avoid inaccessible places.
I note the copper pipes are 22 mm. If the flexis are feeding an under unit plinth heater you would be well advised to use only flexis supplied by the heater manufacturer. Many flexis are not rated for the continuous high temperatures of a heating system.
I've just put new flooring down and flexi pipes are about 5mm short to connect tap connector. The flex hose is 300mm and I think 400mm will be too long. Will the hose stretch 5mm ?
Using your fingers to push on the grey collar, simultaneously push the grey collar into the fitting and also push the whole fitting more onto the copper pipe (this will help the metal fingers that grip the pipe to disengage). After this the fitting should easily slide off the coppe pipe, while you carry on holding the grey collar against the body of the fitting
When refitting check that the metal fingers inside the push fitting haven't scored the pipe and left a sharp edge that will damage the rubber seal
Also bear in mind that some brands of push fitting have coloured C clips that go between the grey collar and the white body of the fitting, preventing the collar being pushed toward the body. These need to be removed otherwise you won't succeed in pushing the collar all the way closed to where it needs to go to activate the release
Sometime you may find it difficult to push the grey ring up, if so release any hot/cold pressure at an other outlet and then push the fitting itself down as you do it.
