I've just ordered a combi boiler (worcester greenstar) for our house and i'm going to do the water side myself, she seems to think that i'm commiting a criminal offence or going against regs. I have no intention of touching the gas side of things and i'm very confident in my own ability to carry out this work. Basically i'm changing from a mains pressure cylinder to a combi so i have all the pipes ready and waiting for me in the airing cupboard including the 22mm mains water feed and ch feed and return and dhw. Also i'm fitting a water softener under the kitch sink.

I know its a bad move changing from mains pressure to a combi but we are after a bit more efficiency + we will not be living in the house for much longer than a year or two!

Thanks for your help in advance 8)

Its fine to do though you may struggle with any warranty as you will have no benchmark as the guy who comes to do the gas side (if you can find one!) is unlikely to sign for the correct installation ie flushing and cleaning and treatments and as he will have to check almost everything you have done , plus the fact he have have to make two visits ( one to measure up and hang the boiler and flue and another to commission usually) means you probably won't save any money......but yes.

thanks for your reply, it really is not down to the saving money but to add to my lists of can-do's. I really do enjoy doing jobs like this and am quite worringly excited about the arrival of my new boiler!

I fully appreciate your comments and know exactly where you are coming from. :D

Do it all yourself nobody is checking, as far as the benchmark and warranty is concerned nobody seems bothered either, in fact even if you kill someone you will probably only get fined £650.00, it's only us pro's which get screwed, cowboys and diyers seem untouchable.

Do all your dodgy work between Christmas and New Year. I think I was the only guy working last year, had to talk to corgi about a possible ID situation, nobody there, ring back on Tuesday was the answer phone message, what shall I do? I know I'll phone HSE that's who corgi answer to and who we answer to if we get it wrong. So I honed them, nobody there either, but their answer phone said "if there has been a death then please leave a message and someone will get back to you, otherwaise ring back after Tuesday".

So to cover my arse I capped off the appliance and customer had a cold two weeks.
