Putting a new window in

Hi, Need some help. I would like to put a new window in for the Kitchen. It is 630 cm wide and 990 cm in height.. what would be the best thing to use for a lintel and would i need to prop it up before putting the lintel in.. cheers

if the property is rendered or similar then the easier option would be to use independent concrete or steel lintels.

if the brickwork is visible however then a steel lintel coping with both leaves of masonry is the best option.

it is unlikely any serious propping will be needed for a 630 mm wide window though your lintel cut-out will need to be 900mm wide to provide adequate bearing. a lot will depend on the location of the window in relation to the surrounding masonry and how good the cohesive bond of the mortar is to the bricks.
