I am thinking of removing my lovely kitchen window and putting in an old sliding conservatory door which was on the outside of a conservatory. Should I put in a lintel? It's a one storey building but with a roof and an attic above it.

It does, but the window is smaller than the door. Will this suffice?

Thinking about it and wondering how difficult it might be. The kitchen is a single storey extension with a loft above. We are thinking of putting up two screw jacks to support the ceiling and then cutting a hole above the existing window, push a lintel through and gradually twist it - taking one brick out each side at the same time whilst twisting the lintel into place.
