I'm terrible at DIY and I've had a nightmare trying to hand a curtain rail in my living room. It's now been 2 years and it's still curtainless. My dad hasn't been able to help fix it.

So, it's a normal width frame and the curtains are to the ground.

There appears to be metal behind the plaster. Even with a masonry bit and hammer drill you can't go further than about 1.5 inches.

I've tried a wooden baton but the wall above is curved inwards. So it doesn't sit flush.

...

I'm now sick of spending money, time and frustrations on such a silly thing as surely it's a simple task?!

I'd like to just get someone in to sort it, but 1) it's embarassing and 2) does anyone actually do work like that - a handyman maybe?

Thanks!

The baton doesn't need to be perfectly flush, you can fill the gap with caulk and paint .

The metal beneath the plaster is likely to be a lintel. To drill metal you must use an HSS bit.

Not sure how much space you have above your window, but if you're hitting the lintel above the window, perhaps try drilling higher up if the curtains still hang o.k
