Hi all
In our new place there is a loft room but it only has the small hatch and metal ladders.
Please se pics.
We would like to fit stairs and open the hatch wider.
Who do we goto to ask to do a job like this? Ie builders etc?
Anyone give a rough cost for doing this?
Thanks all

I wasn't aware of this.
We juat bought the house and it was like this. Is it illegal as it is?
How do we make it legal to fit stairs?

If its just to make it safe is it still an illegal loft conversion?

A loft is allowed a folding ladder

But

A loft conversion needs planning permission and building regulations.

That includes fixed stairs.

Is it not already a loft conversion? A big empty loft with carpet and a window?
Abiet with a ladder?
Or will it only become an illegal loft conversion if we fit stairs to it?

So as it is it is not illegal?

Is it illegal to add metric sockets to it as it is? It has lights in there already from before we bought it last week just no sockets.

How do I know if the seller had planning permission for the loft and adding those ladders you can see.

it should only be described as floored storage area in the selling blurd
it will cost you perhaps 20-30k [may be more ]to rip out and do it properly to building regs to make it an actual loft conversion but fully a guess
