I'm putting up some kitchen wall units on brick walls. They're going to be carrying a lot of weight (tools etc), so as well as the two upper corner fixings I want to put wooden battens underneath them to give extra support and I need advice on how to do this. What I thought I'd do is put up the battens first and then use them as supports while I put up the cupboards using the corner fixings.
How do I put up the battens? Do I drill straight through the batten and into the wall but obviously only to a depth to take a rawl plug for part of the screw (as an inch or so of the screw will be in the batten). Also, I want to countersink the screw into the batten so I can put some caulk over and paint it. Can anyone advise please.
