Hi All,

I want to paint the ceiling of my garage white, its currently bare plaster with a coat of diluted PVA on it.

What should I do to try to remove the PVA so the emulsion will stick, sand? wash with sugar soap?

Any solutions greatly appreciated!

cheers

warm water (with a sprayer) and a metal scraper would do it, the glue will turn to slime, and you wipe the slime off the blade of your scraper.

It can also be coated with an oil-based undercoat but I have not done that, someone else will comment.

You might try flogging whoever put glue on a surface that is to be painted.,

Give a bit of a sand then as suggested give a coat of oil based undercoat, emulsion straight onto undercoat.
