Probably be shot down in flames here but I've always used T-Cut (for car paintwork). Looks like new afterwards even if it's heavily marked.

Done it every spring for ~10 years.

I guess the downside is that T-Cut wil remove the smooth surface a little and attract more grime to stick in the future.

Good tip, you could always give it a polish afterwards to givea protective layer!

I wash with warm soapy water, then use white spirit, seems to do a good job.

Mer car polish seems to do both, cleans the plastic and leaves a protective coating making it easier to clean next time.

Not sure if Mer damages the plastic though, personally never had problems.
