When was it fitted?

Was the installer CORGI registered?

When did the warrantee run out?

Why did the HE fail?

Who told you BG would cover it?

Perhaps they did but dont now?

Possibly they still do a fixed price repair?

Apologies for reviving a very old thread but I thought I might post the following information to save anybody searching for Quantum Boilers Ltd the trouble.

I bought a Quantum condensing boiler in March 2003. Not cheap but well made and the stainless steel heat exchanger was guaranteed for ten years. A few weeks ago the heat exchanger sprang a leak but I was unable to find any trace of the company.

To cut a long story short they were part of Graham Engineering in Lancashire (01282 695121). I rang and spoke to them this morning and was told that the Quantum Boilers were taken on by a a company in Farnborough called Jetstream Products (01252 511292). The chap I spoke to there was very helpful but in essence said that a few spares were available but certainly not anything major like a heat exchanger or a fan assembly, etc.

Shame really because the boiler has given faultless service for the past nine years and is now effectively scrap. I shall certainly buy one of the well estgablished names next purely because they are likely to still be in business when I next need spares!

I think Esse Firemaster used these boilers inside some of their cookers, but I could be wrong.

We too have a client with a Quantum boiler he was not best pleased when we advised him to replace - but if parts are not avialible, then as you say you have a pile of scrap screwed to the wall!

Quntum heat saver , fitted a few , most or all parts are available except the heat exchanger !!

when quantum were still making said boiler the spares were as cheap as chips , not any more though , jet stream which is a swimming pool specialist shop are not far from here , been there a couple of times.

main pcb is available direct from Pektron I think ?? same board as fitted to a Baxi model I think ??

apart from heat exc , I do not think any of the other spares are unique to quantum ???

When u say the heat exc is leaking ?? u know this for a fact ?? if I recall correctly the heat exc has a large O ring on the outer casing held in place with a large clamp , of this o ring fails condensate will leak out when the boiler is in operation ????

You are correct there is a large O ring coupling the two two halves of the heat exchanger together. What first drew my attention to a potential problem was the fact that the plume of steam from the flue had become reminiscent of the Flying Scotsman. I dismantled the whole assembly and once removed I blanked one port of the outer section of the heat exchanger and connected a hosepipe to the other. With the hosepipe tap turned on water was leaking quite substantially from behind the heat exchanger fins.

Given the quality of the welding and of the stainless steel I think I have been unlucky.

I'm currently decommissioning two Q60 units that are being replaced by a single larger unit. Both units are operational though the lower o-ring seal on one may require replacement (It did have a slight condensate drip but I found the the clamp ring loose when I was removing the boiler) I've also got three unused sets of burner gaskets. Anyone interested.

The two Q60 units have now been removed and dismantled so if anybody wants any parts, drop me a note before they end up where they will be of no use to anyone.
