I am 21 and living with my parents at the moment. I also like my tech, so my bedroom is full of stuff which I try to keep one at a time turned on so the heat in my room doesn't become absolutely unbearable but due to this humidity it is becoming ridiculous.

I happen to be right above a kitchen, right next to the bathroom (and pipes are in the wall between me and it) and the airing cupboard is also adjacent to me and it seems this room gets unbelievably hot than it should and its also small.

So what I thought I could do is remove the loft insulation over my part of the loft and put the layer over the rest of the area but be sure to put it over a good meter or so between the wall boundary below so no leaks can occur.

I am always having to have my window open and my radiator is NEVER used. Does removing part of the insulation in the loft cause a major disruption for the efficiency? It isn't that great stuff in the loft anyway - fibreglass stuff.

Any advice would be welcome.

I find this a very strange post. You say you like your "tech" but don't know whether removing the insulation will significantly affect its efficiency

Removing the insulation will dramatically affect its"efficiency". If its not there it can't "work" can it ? I also don't know why you say :

"It isn't that great stuff in the loft anyway - fibreglass stuff. "

because as you have intimated, you know nothing about it.

Removing the insulation is unlikely to moderate the temperature in your room, as the roof-space is going to be reasonably warm to very hot for the next months , so there will be little opportunity to lose heat that way.

What's wrong with opening the window ? That's what they were made for .

Apart from air-con, the only other option would be to fit an extractor-fan, which is likely to be of limited value since you will be replacing your room air with warm/hot air from the rest of the house.

i read it as he likes gadgets and has his window open all the time

removing insulation will make it warmer because the attic gets the sun all day
can you get through ventilation by opening a window the other side off the building and leaving the doors open inbetween
you can even try leaving the loft hatch open providing theres through ventilation up there

Yes thanks big-all that is exactly what I meant. Not sure what mointainwalker thought i meant? Tech is same as Gadgets in my book. Maybe french dont know that meaning of the word - who knows.
