question in regards to hardcore depth for doing patio in garden

hi all,

question in regards to mot1 depth for patio, is it meant to be that i lay down 100mm and wacker down (so actual depth compressed is actually less than 100mm), or is it a case that i keep topping up until i have 100mm depth of compressed mot1.

It should be 100mm depth after compacting. You should be putting it down in thinner layers, compacting each one before you lay the next. Probably 2x50mm layers and then top up and compact again.

As to your other thread, it needs to be a minimum of 100mm thick, to get the fall in you can dig it deeper and then add more MOT at the higher end to get your fall eg one end may be 150mm thick, the other 100mm thick. Giving you a drop of 50mm which at a 40:1 ratio would be about right for a 2 meter run. In practice you'd just dig one end a bit deeper.

if it's 100mm specced then agree with the above that it would be after compacting, but for a standard patio for yourself I would focus more on getting it properly whacked down than the exact thickness. I did 100 for our car driveway and that hasn't moved under the wheels, let alone a foot patio.
