I am constructing a porch and I know usual practice is to cut a vertical damp proof course inside the new cavity. Does this unnecessarily weaken the existing wall? There are two large windows at the front of the property which will be removed and replaced with smaller windows - so the new walls will meet the existing house where the Windows are currently placed and to cut a vertical damp proof course would mean cutting into the lintel. Thanks

A vertical cut is potentially a weak point, but that does not necessarily mean that it will weaken any section of wall. It seems that in your case it won't. There is little load on an external leaf, and the new porch abutment will add support in any case
