Hello all,

I am new to the forum and looking for some advice on building a small garden studio/sleep out on an existing concrete foundation. I have been using the online version of sketchup to get some semblance of a plan. If anyone knows of a good resource for garden studio plans that would be great.

We have recently moved to east Germany an acquired a garden allotment. I handy enough but don't have any experience building (or gardening!) and hope to use this as a learning tool.

The allotment we have is very bare-bones. It has water, power and not much else at this stage which is fine by me. I am looking to build a small garden studio on the existing foundation but have questions about the edge which looks to have damaged when the previous dwelling was taken down.

In the photos(hopefully they have attached correctly!) You can see that bits or the out frame have chipped away. I believe this some-kind of treated timber to stop rot but if anyone knows better or otherwise please let me know.

If anyone has any insight into how to repair this so that a new timber framed building can be build that would be greatly appreciated.

Apologies in advance if this is in the wrong sub forum.

Cheers
Nick

Looks more like a top finishing layer had delaminated from the rest of the slab rather than a structural problem. Your starting point is to check whether the depth of foundation is ok for what you’re planning to build, may want to dig a hole down alongside to look at depth. Not sure what if any planning/building regulations will apply in Germany for this kinda thing.

Once you top coat the surface and edges with a strong sharp sand/ cement mix with some SBR additive, you can install the frame and make sure it overhangs the slab with a suitable drip detail to cast rain water away from the slab.
