Hi there,

Just about to start my rewire first fix in my old bungalow. Was just wondering how people route cables in a ground floor void under a traditional suspended timber floor.

I know all about the rules pertaining to going through joists, but presumably i dont have to go through them if I can just go underneath? The old install has cables pretty much dumped on the mud/concrete/rubble floor of the void being pulled up for sockets - not a clip to be seen. What do people do nowadays for a tidy install? Clip under every joist if running perpendicular, along the side if running parallel?

Any advice appreciated. Ought to try and make mr LABC happy when he inspects the first fix (not that the criminals are my best pals, what with them refusing to test etc etc...).

Cheers,

Liam

conduit.. stops the ratties from making nests out of the insulation..

also makes for easier cable replacements later if needed and means you don't have to pull up that nice laminate flooring the missus is going to insist on..

As always, NO joints allowed under the floors..

I'd be a bit worried about the damp and vermin so at the very least I'd clip to the joists.

While your down there, insulation seems to be all the rage these days, why not insulate under your floor, you'd be surprised at the energy savings!
