The GAS BOARD have fitted a new boiler to the in laws system, but as well as the new boiler they have fitted a (sorry for the description) a big round red ball tank type of thing next to it, The system never had one before, Can anyone hava a guess at what it is, sorry no pictures and please excuse my nieveity

This is an expansion vessel, presumably it is now a sealed pressurised system, but why they didn't fit a system boiler is strange, unless they had an un-vented cylinder fitted as well and it is the EV for this.

Good info chaps, cheers.............so they have converted it to a pressuriesd system and hence fitted this, what exactly is the purpose of this expansion vessel, as my system was converted to a sealed pressurised system and i havnt had one fitted..............

I have just read the STICKY section and found it on there, I guess my boiler (worcester 24i greenstar) must have an internal one.........but my inlaws have the same boiler, so how come they have had an external one fitted

could be internal vessel not big enough for system so they added an extra one, perfectly ok doing it this way

Took me a little while to figure out the title to this topic!
I thought at first it was something to do with chickens that have poorly feet.
I suggest you click THIS for future reference
