This is the old switch working fine:

This is the new dimmer switch I have:

Can anyone helpful advise which wires should go in the new switch?

Also, this circuit has a toroidal transformer 300VA on it running 12V track lighting. Is it okay to put dimmer switches on toroidals?

The red that is in the COM terminal goes to the left hand terminal
The red that is in L1 goes to L on the dimmer.

BUT

Your dimmer clearly says Incandescent Lamp. Which does not include toroidial transformers.

I am not familiar with that make of dimmer. What do the instructions say?

Also, your transformer is rated at 300W > more than the dimmer's capability of 250watts. What is the total load on your track?

You probably need to get a compatible dimmer of teh right power handling capability.

Read the instructions!!!! Surely they came with the dimmer????

Page 2 clearly says

The 4 gang LightwaveRF Connect Dimmer is NOT
compatible with:
• Wirewound transformers (generally older style)
• Electric Motors

A toroidial transformer is a wirewound transformer.

(nice looking dimmer though-use it somewhere else……._

Thanks for all your help guys, I assumed as much that it must be the toroidal (wirewound) that was causing the problem!
